  • Freshmen: Students applying to a bachelor degree program, who have not completed any courses at a college or university after high school, are considered “freshmen” students. CSULB accepts freshmen applicants in spring and fall semester only.

    Undergraduate Transfer: CSULB accepts lower-division and upper-division transfer applicants in fall and spring semesters. CSULB considers upper-division transfer to be those applicants who completed more than 60 transferable semester units (90 quarter units) of college course work at an accredited college or university in the U.s. or outside the US.

    Graduate/Graduate transfer: Students who have obtained a degree level comparable to a U.S. bachelor degree are considered “graduate” students, also referred to as “post-baccalaureate students.” CSULB accepts graduate applications in fall and spring semesters; however, some graduate programs may close to applications at any time.

    Second Bachelor's: Students who have already completed a degree level comparable to a U.S. bachelor degree, but wish to apply to complete a bachelor degree in a different discipline are referred to as a second bachelor (2nd bachelor) applicant.  CSULB accepts 2nd bachelor applicants into limited majors.

    Preliminary Evaluation Service: Students who want to find out their eligibility for admission at California State University, Long Beach prior to applying to the university may subscribe to the service.  Click here for the 'Preliminary Evaluation Request Form'
