  • Students completing some college course work at a regionally accredited college or university are considered “undergraduate transfer” students. 

    Admission criteria include the following:

    Junior/Senior upper division transfers are open and eligible to students who have completed at least 60 transferable semester units or 90 transferable quarter units. These units must be completed at a regionally accredited college or university to be considered transferable. The number of transferable units will be determined by the International Admissions office.

    Transfer application deadlines can be found under Application and Document Deadlines. However, Transfer students interested in Art BFA, Athletic Training, Dance BA/BFA, FEA Narrative Production Option, Interior Design BFA, Industrial Design BS, Music BA/BM, Nursing Basic, Nursing RN-BSN, and Social Work must follow the earlier departmental deadline. Those who complete their application past the departmental deadline will be withdrawn. Transfer applications from domestic institutions must meet an earlier deadline that is listed below.

    Admission requirements will vary depending your status

    Admission Criteria for students interested in applying as an upper division transfer differ depending on your current status:

    1. International transfers who require an F-1 visa and have only foreign coursework from outside the United States:
      • File a CSU Long Beach application through Cal State Apply
      • All transcripts from all institutions attended (high schools and colleges/universities) attended
        • For Fall Admission, transcripts must show units through the end of Spring Term
        • For Spring Admission, transcripts must show units completed by the end of Summer Term
        • Please do not request transcripts until the above terms have been met to avoid having to submit multiple transcripts
      • English Language Requirements
        • If you have already taken an English Exam make sure you request CSULB as a receiving institution and submit an unofficial copy of your test scores with your supporting documents. We will use the unofficial score to verify online
        • A list of countries we waive the English Demonstration for could be found through the “English Language Requirements” link above
      • Upper Division transfer students must complete College Level Mathematics
    2. International students (requiring an F-1 visa) who have completed only coursework from the United States, or have a combination of foreign and U.S. coursework but are transferring from a U.S. domestic institution:

      • File a CSU Long Beach application through Cal State Apply
        • Spring Cal State Apply filing period: August 1 – August 31
        • Fall Cal State Apply filing period: October 1 – November 30
      • Transfer applicants in this status will be required to complete a Supplemental Application.The supplemental application is a requirement and will only be accessible through an emailed invitation. The filing period dates may vary slightly from year to year.
        • Spring Supplemental Application filing period: September 2 – September 21
        • Fall Supplemental Application filing period: January 4 – February 1
      • All transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
        • For Fall Admission, transcripts must show units through the end of Spring Term
        • For Spring Admission, transcripts must show units completed by the end of Summer Term
        • Please do not request transcripts until the above terms have been met
        • Applicants submitting electronic transcripts from U.S. institutions (National Clearinghouse, Parchment, etc.) must submit transcripts to IDPTrans@csulb.edu
        • If you have already taken an English Exam make sure you request CSULB as a receiving institution and submit an unofficial copy of your test scores with your supporting documents. We will use the unofficial score to verify online

      • Upper Division transfer students must complete the following four foundation courses, known as the “Golden Four” with a grade of “C” or better
        • Oral Communication
        • Written Communication
        • Critical Thinking
        • College Level Mathematics
