2017 Chinese Summer Camp.jpg

The Confucius Institute (CI) at CSULB offers many programs to promote Chinese language, culture, arts and traditions. The nonprofit organization recently announced a three-week summer camp program for students from 4th through 12th grades. Beginning on June 19, the program consists of a Chinese language course and other cultural activities.

CSULB’s Graduate Program in Sport Management sent a group of students off to Japan this summer for an intensive Study Abroad program, providing an incredible educational opportunity that underscored the global reach of the athletics industry. 


From July 20th to August 1st, the 11 students—including ten from Sport Management along with an undergraduate in Asian Studies—were immersed at Sendai University, which has programs dedicated to physical education as well as sports and health science.

In October, CSULB international student Hiten Diwan beat the odds and received his H1B Visa. In a lottery of more than 200,000 applicants, Hiten’s application happen to be one of the 65,000 to be randomly selected and processed.

In October, the CSULB Career Development Center and the Center for International Education (CIE) partnered to bring a week of programs and workshops addressing the different challenges and policies international students face in finding internships and jobs in the U.S.

CSULB Department of Chicano and Latino Studies (CHLS) Professor, Victor M. Rodriguez Ph.D., has the Caribbean in his blood. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, he graduated with a major in history from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, then went on to earn a graduate degree from Louisiana State University and doctorate from the University of California, Irvine, all focused on the Hispanic Caribbean of Spanish-speaking Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.

Featuring international education professional from more than 100 countries, the event offered numerous opportunities to connect and explore new partnerships in international education.
