Applied Mathematics for the Health Care Professional

Mathematics is one of the vital skills used by healthcare professionals on a daily basis. The main objective of this intensive hands-on course is to focus on mathematical computation and applications within the healthcare arena. You can expect to achieve the following goals:

  • Develop sound judgment about data applicable to clinical care
  • Interpret most commonly used vital statistics and understand the ramifications of epidemiologic information for patient care
  • Reach correct conclusions about diagnostic procedures and laboratory test results
  • Interpret manufactures’ information about drugs, medical instruments and equipment
  • Be able to use the unique mathematical tools for clinical data analysis, management, and control system for assessing diagnostic and treatment efficiency of relevant diseases

Topics Include:

  • Clinical Mathematics (medication dosage calculations using dimensional analysis, measuring intake and output, drug measurements and reading medical labels, hypodermic syringe measurements, intravenous calculations, etc.)
  • Clinical Statistics (clinical data analysis, management and monitoring treatment effects, randomized treatment assignment, evaluating and measuring the accuracy of diagnostic procedures, drug interactions, approval and regulations, and compliance assessment, clinical decision making)

Who Should Attend?

  • Those who wish to pursue a career in the healthcare industry
  • Physicians, nurses, and other clinicians who are interested in moving to an administrative/ leadership position, or to enhance their skills
