ArchiCAD
Certificate Program

Prerequisite:Working knowledge of Windows or Mac operating system. Operational knowledge of 3-button mouse.

ArchiCAD is a powerful yet simple package which will enable you to easily draft floor plans while simultaneously creating 3D views that automatically generate fly-through animation, construction documents, and full-color presentation renderings. ArchiCAD is suitable for interior designers, architects, contractors, re-modelers, commercial real estate sales professionals and those involved in architecture set design. The skills you will gain in this program will allow you to streamline your work time by 40 -50% and focus more on your design. You will create cutting edge presentations and virtual reality movies with ArchiCAD's integrated photo-realistic rendering engine.

Who Should Attend?

  • Interior designers
  • Contractors
  • Re-modelers
  • Commercial real estate sales professionals
  • Those involved in architecture set design
  • Architects
  • Architecture students

You Will Learn:

  • Design-through-documentation workflow
  • How to use ArchiCAD's fully-integrated publishing system to automatically update your documents
  • How to design in a 3D virtual building environment (BIM) and get all the documentation generated as a by-product
  • How to design real building elements like walls, beams, slabs, windows and doors
  • How to work directly on your design model in any project view
  • How to use parametric building components to ensure an accurate representation in any view, and obtain up-to-date interactive schedules and quantities
  • How to create element and zone lists and schedules as well as customized quantity take-off calculations
  • How to create cutting-edge presentations and virtual reality movies with the integrated photo-realistic rendering engine.

How Do I Complete the Certificate?

  • Complete both modules.
  • Complete all assignments including production of professional-level drawings, associated calculations, and presenations.
  • No make-up classes are available.

4.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be provided upon request as a permanent record of one's attendance, if requested by the last class meeting.

Note

Class size is limited. Please enroll early. After the first class meeting, more information will be provided regarding the free student version of ArchiCAD 13. All assignments and handouts will be posted online. Please bring a USB flash drive for taking home files and utilities.

Introductory ArchiCAD

In this module, you will discover ArchiCAD's user-friendly building information modeling system that will enable you to create a residential building, 3D views, sections, and elevations.

Topics Include:

  • ArchiCAD interface and the virtual building concept
  • Selection and editing techniques; coordinate input, snapping and clean drafting
  • Introdution to toolbox and tools, elements, and windows; toggling between 2D and 3D
  • How to use object library: place doors, windows and objects and setting their attributes
  • Dimensioning techniques, text notes, and labels to annotate your drawings
  • Setting up 3D perspectives and 3D projection settings
  • Understanding line weights, layers and layer combinations to make construction drawings look their best
  • High-end rendering and animating
  • Layout of drawings on sheets and publishing the layout online; publishing to a plotter
