The mission of the American Language Institute (ALI) is to provide quality English as a Second Language instruction that meets the high educational standards of its affiliate campus, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). As a unit within the College of Continuing and Professional Education, the self-support division on campus, the American Language Institute responds to the needs of a variety of audiences. As such, the American Language Institute includes long-term and short-term programs, credit and non-credit courses, as well as support services and activities appropriate for its different clients. A large part of the efforts within the institute focuses on the Intensive English Program (IEP), which offers academic and practical ESL instruction to a post-secondary audience. The IEP administrators, faculty and staff endeavor to maximize learning and successfully prepare students for studies at U.S. colleges and universities. Every effort is made to provide effective support services and facilitate student use of campus and community resources.
