About Open University

Open University provides an opportunity for those people who are not currently admitted to CSULB to enroll in courses offered by the university.

Students enrolling through Open University will receive Open University Special Sessions Credit.  Students may apply up to 24 units of Open University Special Sessions Credit toward a baccalaureate degree.  At the option of the appropriate college and department, up to six units of Open University Special Sessions Credit may be applied toward a graduate degree.

Open University for International Students

The College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) with support from the academic departments at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) has developed a new learning opportunity for international students called University Study at the Beach (USB).

Registration forms for the spring semester will be available the first day of courses Monday January 25th, 2010

What's New

Disqualified Students and Open University

Effective January 2010, students who have been academically disqualified from CSULB will be subject to the following unit limits through Open University:
  • Fall and Spring Semesters: Disqualified students  will be limited to 6 units or two courses, as long as enrollment in these two courses does not exceed 7 units
  • Summer Session:  Disqualified students will be limited to 6 units or two courses, as long as enrollment in these two courses does not exceed 7 units
  • Winter Session: Disqualified students will be limited to 4 units
Disqualified students requesting more than 6 unit or two courses (as long as enrollment in these two courses does not exceed 7 units) must submit an email appeal to Lynn Mahoney, Associated Vice President for Undergraduate Studies (lmahoney@csulb.edu). Students should include an explanation for the additional units and a list of the courses they plan on registering for.

Spring 2010

Registration for Spring 2010 Open University will be accepted in-person beginning on January 25, 2010.  Students must obtain instructor and department chair permission to enroll in a class using an Open University Registration Form. The form does not become available until the first day of instruction, classes begin January 25, 2010.
 
Spring 2010 Academic Semester begins January 22, 2010 and ends May 28, 2010.  Please see the Academic Calendar for a complete schedule of the Spring 2010 Semester.
