Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)
Program

Opportunities are expanding throughout the world in the field of Teaching English as a Foreign Language. If you are interested in living and working abroad, you need qualifications beyond a four-year college degree. This course is designed to prepare you to be an English instructor in a variety of settings around the world. Our program covers the latest in learning theory and teaching methodology with an emphasis on their practical applications in the classroom.

Who Should Attend?

  • Any degree holder seeking an instructor position in EFL
  • Individuals who want to increase their marketability for conversation schools, public schools, private schools, and college and university programs
  • Current ESL instructors who want to transition to teaching EFL

You Will Learn:

  • The variety of ways and conditions under which languages are learned and acquired
  • How to use the terms of English grammar
  • Efficient ways to conduct a class and create a productive learning environment
  • How to create lesson plans for effective teaching of EFL classes with adult and young learners
  • Effective and meaningful ways to teach all language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
  • How to develop and implement language assessment
  • The best methods to find overseas positions

How Do I Complete the Program?

  • Successfully complete all assignments/projects.
  • Pass all written (planning and teaching) exams. Students must score an average of at least 70% on all written materials.
  • Submit a final project.
  • No make-classes are available.

Instructors: Our instructors have a Master's degree in TESOL or a related field and many years of classroom experience. All of them have experience in teaching in environments abroad.

Each Class is limited to 20 students

Note

A bachelors degree is not required to enroll in this program. However, most of the overseas agencies that offer employment to TEFL instructors require a bachelor's degree along with the TEFL certification.

Textbooks will be provided.

Practical Issues in TEFL

Topics Include:

  • Hands-on training with Micro Teaching, Class Observations, and Practice Teaching
  • Utilize experienced teacher trainers for any issues and concerns within this vast profession

Language Assessment

Topics Include:

  • Utilizing of current descriptive, diagnostic and achievement tests for various language skills
  • How to develop customized assessment tools relative to the needs of the target audience

Teaching EFL Skills

Topics Include:

  • Discovering effective and meaningful ways to teach all of the necessary language skills
  • Gaining awareness of basic concepts and terminology used to describe reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills
  • How to develop student’s skills in other areas such as pronunciation, vocabulary, and conversation.

Lesson Planning

Topics Include:

  • How to create lesson plans for effective teaching of EFL classes for adult and young learners
  • How to consider the objectives, the context and the content when planning a lesson.

Classroom Methods/Management

Topics Include:

  • Efficient ways to conduct a class and create a productive learning environment even with large class sizes
  • Techniques available to present curriculum in a communicative and dynamic way
  • Practice ways to keep the classroom a cooperative environment.

English Structure and Usage

Topics Include:

  • How to use the terms of English grammar
  • Review grammatical terms and ways to describe the form and function of English
  • Usage of grammar in various contexts and how to incorporate this understanding into other skills in meaningful ways

Learning a Language

Topics Include:

  • Understanding the variety of ways and conditions under which languages are learned and acquired
  • Learning the sociolinguistic, psycholinguistic, and pragmatic influences on language learning
  • How to promote learner autonomy and language learning strategies
