Advanced Media Production Center (AMP)

AMP functions as a Revenue Center by offering corporate and organizational clients a host of services on a fee basis. These include full service studio and location video production, satellite/Internet videoconferencing uplink/downlink site, Internet video hosting and streaming, and a computer training center. Off-campus clients have included the CSU Chancellor’s Office, the National Institute of Corrections (a division of the U.S. Department of Justice), the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, McGraw-Hill Publishing, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the National Science Foundation, and the Port of Long Beach.

As a Service Center AMP provides television production, broadcasting and cable casting infrastructure, on demand and streaming Web video, media support for The College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) and - as part of the CCPE mission – media production capabilities for a variety of on and off-campus clients. AMP maintains a multi-camera broadcast television studio and control room, a distance learning classroom studio and satellite reception theater, two post production editing suites, an Internet server and media streaming room, a 3D computer generated imagery (CGI) lab, two multipoint videoconferencing systems, integrated technology rooms, and offices.

AMP provides technical support to CCPE for delivery of courses via digital microwave transmission, videoconferencing systems, and Internet media streaming. AMP’s production studio and post production facilities are utilized to create programs and promotional spots for CCPE marketing campaigns. A computer animation training lab at AMP is maintained and supported for the CCPE Program Division. The lab is also rented to outside companies on a day-rate basis.

Major campus clients utilizing AMP video production resources include the President’s Office, Academic Affairs, Student Services, University Relations and Development, the College of Liberal Arts, and Sports, Athletics and Recreation.

Beach TV, previously known as The University Channel, is operated by AMP. This campus communication and outreach service provides 24x7 educational and community affairs television programming to more than 150,000 Long Beach, Lakewood, and Signal Hill homes with cable TV.
